Part 1 or Part 2 Architectural Assistant

Nancy Gouldstone Architects is seeking a talented architectural assistant (Part 1 or Part 2), ideally with at least one year of relevant private residential experience in practice, to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent role following a three-month probation period. We are looking for ambitious people who are interested in becoming long-term members of our growing practice. For Part 2 applicants, we have projects suitable for those wishing to undertake their Part 3.

You will be working on projects in Chelsea, Primrose Hill, Hampstead and Belsize Park, covering RIBA Stages 0–5.

This is a full-time, office-based position in North London with an immediate start available. If you are currently employed, we are happy to wait for your notice period to be served.

You will receive guidance and structured support, with regular reviews to help you progress quickly and take on responsibility in a fast-paced environment.

Essential:

·      Good at learning new skills

·      Hard working with excellent organisational skills

·      A love of architecture, interior design and garden design

·      A love of thoughtful and unique residential design

·      Vectorworks, or if you cannot use Vectorworks you are prepared to learn it in advance of starting at our practice.

·      A love of systems – we are a highly systemised practice with lots of training resources and specific ways of doing our tasks, and we track everything so that we can all progress as fast as possible

·      ARB accredited architecture course at Part 1 or  Part 2 level as relevant

·      A love of historic, heritage buildings (most of  of our projects are in existing period buildings, some of which are Listed buildings or located in conservation areas)

·      InDesign (or Affinity publisher)

·      Photoshop (or Affinity Photo)

·      Good team player. Happy to work independently but also happy to take guidance and work to deadlines and specific tasks.

·      Excellent level of written and spoken English

·      Ability to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively.

·      Good multi-tasker. We have a lot of projects on and as a small team, people need to be happy to take on a range of tasks.

·      Based in London

·      Hold a UK visa or work permit (valid for next two years from start)

·      Evidence of your academic qualification will be required prior to starting the role.

·      References from one former tutor. and from one former or current employer

 

Experience:

·Ideally at least one year’s experience in a residential architect’s practice, though strong applications without this will also be considered

 

Duties:

·Drawing up general arrangement drawings for each stage of the project

·Drawing up room elevations and plans for key design areas

·Creating schedule drawing packages – doors windows rooflights etc

·Researching and putting together reference images for preliminary stage

·Creating mood boards

·Creating 3D working models of key areas of the design

·Creating Excel spreadsheets for specification of interior and architectural items

·On occasion, attending site visits with the project Architect and writing up construction notes documenting progress on site and updated to do lists

·Creating to do lists for projects and keeping track of what needs to be done and updating to do lists daily on our internal project management system

·Liaising with and chasing builders, structural engineers, party wall consultants, building control inspectors, suppliers regarding the coordination and progress of the residential projects you are involved in. You will need to be a confident and friendly communicator as you will need to be calling and emailing the various other consultants on a regular basis to ensure that projects keep progressing in a timely fashion

·Liaising to choose samples for the architecture and interior design of each project

·After training, working on CDM duties for a range of projects

 

Salary:

·      We offer salaries based on experience in line with the current RIBA salary guide.
